Horse Project

One of Kya's school assignments last month was to pick one animal and do a project on it. She chose to do her's on Horses. We decided to do a poster board showing pictures with a description of how to care for a pet horse.

First, she wrote about keeping the barn clean and demonstrated with a picture of her raking up the hay.

Next, she scooped up the horse manure into the wheelbarrow, showing how to keep the horses stall clean.

Then she got Arasa so that she could then tell how you care for the horse.

Here she is currying the horse to keep the knots away, help remove the loose hair from her coat and help get rid of any dirt.

After we curry the horse, it is time to pick their hooves, to get rid of any packed in dirt or manure. We don't let the kid do this part yet, so Wayne did the demonstration.

After the horse is groomed, it is time to get them ready to exercise & ride. Kya does a great job at carrying the saddle.

Of course her siblings help out too. Seth has another saddle and Elsie carries the saddle blanket.

Kya is doing a great job at leading Arasa in the direction she wants her to go.

Seth is also learning how to ride and lead his horse, but needs dad's help a bit more.

and Elsie still must have her daddy lead her around with a lead line, but she is also great with the horses.

After we ride, we feed them their dinner. First, they get some horse pellets which is like a vitamin for horses.

and then their hay.

Here is the poster she did and turned in. I should have drew some lines to help her write straight, but she did a great job on it.
