Kya's Last Day of Swimming Lessons

Friday was Kya's last day of her swimming lessons. Being that it was the last day, they decided to review what the kids had learned and then have some fun, by allowing them to jump off of the diving board.

Then it was time to climb out of the pool and put on the oh so pretty orange life vests! It reminds me of the drills they perform on cruises, where everyone has to put on a life vest at the beginning of the cruise. I myself have never been on a cruise, but I have seen pictures of my friends. lol

Kya was VERY excited to jump off the diving board. In fact, she was the first one in her class to do so. She bravely climbed up the ladder, walked the length of the board and ........

....STOPPED as soon as she got to the end of the handrail, refusing to move another inch towards the end of the board.

Kya asked lifeguard Brittany to help her, which she was glad to do. As soon as Kya was able to hold onto Brittany's hand she was much more confident to walk to the end of the board.....

...and then decided it was much safer to just sit on the end!

After several attempts to get Kya to put her toes on the end of the diving board and jump, Brittany decided to just hold her above the water.....

...and gently drop her in! I think it scared Kya a bit, but she enjoyed every minute of it and started giggling as soon as she came to the surface.

It was recommended that Kya repeat the Level 1 class again, which I agree because she is a little too energetic in the water and it causes her to not concentrate as much as she should. But I think that the instructor should have checked off "Learn basic treading skills" on the list below, as Kya let go of the wall twice on Thursday and treaded water for a good amount of time. In fact, she ended up drifting too far from the wall and had to be rescued by the lifeguard, but she DID tread water well.

Anyways, Kya is done with swim lessons for the summer and Seth starts his Parent and Me lessons on Monday. He is very excited to get in the pool, as he has been asking when his turn would be for the past two weeks.
