Kya's class was small, just her and one other boy. It worked out well, because they were both able to get lots of one on one time with their teacher, Miss Darcy. During the year, Kya memorized verses every week and completed her Hopper Celebration Workbook that consisted of stories then answering questions; and doing projects that went along with that weeks verse and story. Such as for ...Love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 22:39 she baked a cherry pie (with Mommy's help) for our neighbor Mark.
This was the first year that AWANA has had a class for the 2 year olds. It was called Puggles and there were a total of 4 kids in that class. Seth being the only boy. They also memorized bible verses, although they only had to learn a few throughout the year, reviewing the same verse for a few weeks at a time. Mainly, they would read bible stories, play, do crafts and then walk around the church property finding things that God made. Miss Maria would point to a flower and ask the kids "Who made the flowers?" and the kids would say "God made the flowers!" They would also go into our pastors office every week and tell him their bible verse as a group. Very cute indeed!
Here they are in their uniforms (Kya wore a vest that she accumulated patches for during the year and Seth a hat) just before their last class. Kya earned all her patches for this year and by the end of next year her vest will be completely full. Next year, both Kya and Seth will be in Cubbies together, while Elsie gets to go into Puggles.
After AWANA classes, there was an awards ceremony in the sanctuary. The Puggles stayed in the nursery during most of it, because there is no way you can expect a bunch of 2 years old to sit still for an hour. Because Cubbies requires a lot of parent interaction, Wayne and I were called up onto the stage to help Kya receive her award certificate and Cubbie Bear for her vest. Luckily, the children's pastor, Tony, volunteered to take pictures for me as I had no idea I was going to be on stage. Miss Darcy was home with two of her sick kids, so Miss Diana spoke about Kya and passed out her awards. Just before we went up on stage with Kya, the Puggles came in as did Elsie. If you look at the bottom right of this picture you can see her climbing up the stairs to be with us.

Then it was time for the Puggles to receive their certificate and book. Because they are so little, all of them went up on stage together. They were so excited to be on stage in front of their parents and congregation. Seth is usually very shy and introverted when he gets in front of people or in a large group. So you can understand that I was extremely shocked to find him laughing and dancing up on the stage. He even spoke into the microphone to recite his memory verse from Genesis...."God saw that is was good"

Miss Darcy also bought Kya and the other boy in her class teddy bears from Build A Bear. Kya is in love with her 'Cubbie' Bear. She has to take it to bed with her every night. What a sweet way for Kya to remember her time spent in Cubbies. (Ignore the tv covered in tiny hand prints!)
